Devil’s Gambit Playtest Patch Notes Version 0.0.1.1 4/2/2024

  • BOSS
    • A new boss manager script has been implemented that has fixed a number of issues regarding the Martyr King boss.
      • Hazard and attacking chains should now properly kill themselves upon player death.
      • He now fully resets after death.
      • He no longer walks out of the boss arena.
      • He should no longer be getting stuck in the air and “aim-botting” the player’s location until he hits the floor. Some tracking states weren’t updating properly, so his movement in the air was getting reset and thus he had no friction to stop him from homing in on you like a missile.
      • He should no longer be falling through the floor.
      • Hazards should no longer activate upon entering the boss arena.
      • Animation tracking should be improved in most cases.
      • He can no longer leave the boss arena (sorry martyr king).
      • The cog that raises and controls the platforms should no longer infinitely increase its own health.
  • LEVEL
    • Certain scenes have been painted over and beautified.
      • Healing tutorial has been moved closer towards the beginning of the level.
      • Tutorial text detailing how to fall through platforms has been added
      • Cross Suit range has been increased by 10-15%.
      • Soul Anchors now have glowing effects on the floor in front of them to improve visibility.
      • A number of new secret sections have been added to reward player exploration and use of movement mechanics (not fully tested yet so there might be bugs with them).
      • Some enemy placements have been changed so that they don’t spawn camp you.
  • PLAYER
    • Cross Suit range has been increased by 10-15%.
      • Time to Heal has been decreased by .2 seconds.
      • Cavalier burst color is now in tune with the rune that signifies it is ready to fire again.

We’ve been listening to your feedback closely, so here’s a list of things we’re planning on implementing for near future builds.

  • We’re working on a number of changes to how we represent the boss’ health, and we’re cooking up some new effects, sounds, and visuals for him to make your progress clearer.
  • New level sections! We’ve expanded a bit now on level sections that can only be accessed through smart use of the movement in the game, but we’re planning on adding more flushed out level sections to make it more metroidvania-like.
  • New visuals are being worked on to make the level more appealing, like props, backgrounds, and tiles.
  • UI functions are being worked on, so soon the menus should be totally controller-friendly!
  • Sound feedback is being added to charging up Cavalier as well as on your cooldowns for certain abilities. This should help the mental load with keeping track of these.
  • Health and Moxie feedback is being improved. Sounds and effects are being added to let you know whether you can heal, how many times you’re able to heal, and when you’re at low health.
  • Reset checkpoint buttons are being worked on to allow you to reset to your last checkpoint if you ever get stuck or want to try something again.
  • The overall sound and sound levels are being tweaked. There were previous issues where things would pause or start abruptly, they’re all being worked on.
  • More music is in the works! We are waiting on some of our composers to send us the last of the finished pieces to put into the game.
  • Finally…we are adding an in-game timer to track your speeds. After our final playtest build is released, we’ll be holding a speed run contest where the fastest time gets to create an NPC for the full release of the game in the future! More details about the competition soon!
